We may be short by a few dozen businesses. Why? Because you have not sent me your contact information. I’ve noticed that others of you appear to have no web site at all, which I find interesting.
This is a semi-permanent blog entry that will be linked from the left sidebar.

Bedford Ave. is now Prospect Heights? At what point does Prospect Heights become Crown Heights?
Via craigslist.
I ditched Verizon DSL and signed up for Optimum Online. It’s a little more expensive, in the long run, but my bandwidth has at least tripled, if not quadrupled. Verizon had a much-publicized "HI we’re speeding up your DSL!!" campaign. Nothing here. Very, very pokey "high speed" Internet. I called and they said I was already provisioned at the highest possible speed. Huh? I’m pretty sure our CO is just past Atlantic Avenue, so that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Anyway, goodbye, Verizon DSL. I will not miss you.
Post your war stories below. Also, check out this very popular "High Speed Internet in PH" thread.
This happened last Tuesday, Jan. 4, at about 5:30 PM. Looking for updates… have not found any yet.
"Edward Ruiz, 27, was stepping out of the
Lincoln Continental he had just parked on Flatbush Ave. at Dean St. in
Prospect Heights when he was hit by a passing 1995 Jeep Wrangler headed
north on Flatbush Ave."
"Ruiz suffered severe head injuries and was clinging to life at Brooklyn Hospital Center, police said."
"Cops said Ruiz, of 21st Ave., was accidentally struck by a 49-year-old
woman driver from the Bronx. She was not charged, cops said."
Le Gamin translates as "Naughty Boy," according to Brooklyn Papers’ Neighborhood Dining Guide.
556 Vanderbilt Ave. at Dean St.; 718-789-5171
Also name-checked: Aliseo, Brooklyn Museum Cafe, Garden Cafe, Hibiscus Cafe, New Prospect Cafe, Soda Bar, Tavern on Dean, Terrace Cafe, Tom’s Diner.
"SODA BAR is like those parties people had in their dorm rooms in
college, except with a lot of space. It’s a good old drunken time and a
serious regulars spot. You don’t have to get in your hot-girl tube top.
You can bike over in your ‘drunk neighborhood’ clothes and fit right
in."

"It is a reminder of Brooklyn’s late-19th-century opulence as well as
its decline from the ’60s through the ’80s and a signifier of its
current return to hip. Yet Prospect Heights does not strive to
replicate Park Slope, and some residents worry over its recent
popularity."

This is an OK overview… but I think we could do better than this. Wiki, anyone?
Eastern Parkway is City’s Most Dangerous Road for Pedestrians
"Sprawling eight-lane Eastern Parkway has a higher rate of pedestrian
deaths and injuries than infamous Queens Blvd. – and the distinction of
having the deadliest intersection in the entire city."
"There were 25 people killed crossing the 3.9-mile length of Eastern
Parkway from 1995 to 2001, according to the latest figures available … Cars struck 609 pedestrians in that period."
"Pedestrians have only 16 seconds to cross the six lanes of Eastern
Parkway, which also has two service roads separated by two islands. The
speed limit – 30 mph – is routinely broken."
