DO NOT REMOVE

do not remove.jpgWell, this one stumped me. Found it taped to the wall next to the laundromat at Underhill and Sterling. I was too intimidated by the handwritten warning to look inside. I came by the next day to find the box had been ripped from the wall and thrown in the garbage pile on the curb. Lizzie?

FOUND: "How to Be Safe in Your Home"

how to be safe-tn.jpgPublished by the Amy Vanderbilt Success Program for Women, the pamphlet “How to be Safe in Your Home” (1963) warns housewives that “many of your food supplies are packed in all-too-breakable glass containers or in cans that will have jagged edges when opened.”

This is one of several books FOUND in a blue plastic tub on Sterling Pl. (btw Washington and Underhill). Also found was the mysterious 1907 tome “Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ by LEVI,” 1972 printing, was purchased in 1974 from Flying Saucer News on 359 West 54th St. in Manhattan. The book is a record of “the intimate details of Christ’s life” from the “‘lost’ eighteen years so strangely silent in the New Testament … written from the original authentic ‘Akashic Records’ by a student who devoted forty years to preparation for the task.”

Worst Fortune-Cookie Fortunes Ever. In Bed.

maybe-you-can-live-on-moon.jpg

“Maybe”?? (May be?) What kind of weak fortune is that? When you give a fortune, are you supposed to vacillate and hedge your bets–or pronounce the future authoritatively? Or at least “see” something happening in the future: “I see craters – a colony of people … do you know somebody with the first initial J?” “Ohmigod! That’s my uncle Jimmy! We’re going to be living on the moon!

More to come.

These fortunes came from Mr. Wonton in Park Slope. You can reach Mr. Wonton at … wait. Forget it. Am I your frickin’ entertainment directory? Go use Google.

[FOUND] Odd Books and Pamphlets, Part I

aquarian-gospel-tn.jpgThis is one of several books FOUND in a blue plastic tub sitting front of 414 Sterling Pl. (btw Washington and Underhill) the other day.

The mysterious 1907 tome “Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ by LEVI,” 1972 printing, was purchased in 1974 from Flying Saucer News on 359 West 54th St. in Manhattan. The book is a record of “the intimate details of Christ’s life” from the “‘lost’ eighteen years so strangely silent in the New Testament … written from the original authentic ‘Akashic Records’ by a student who devoted forty years to preparation for the task.”

Apparently at one point in this book, Jesus is actually refuting Darwinism, about 19 centuries too soon (I guess he could have been foretelling the Theory of Darwin). Follow the link for an excerpt and debate on this.
