Internet Land Grab?

Landgrab390extravagamezacomGuess what www.forestcityratner.com redirects to: "Brooklyn Papers publisher Ed Weintrob — finding the (URL) unclaimed — rented if for a year beginning August 5, and set it up to
automatically forward visitors to a brooklynpapers.com page with
articles such as "Earth to Bruce: Facts show he owns less land" and
"Members: Ratner owns community boards.""

Hey, wait. Isn’t this just an Internet land grab? Shame on you, Ed Weintrob.

Sam Sloan's Home Page

Wtckayo_2If you are ProHo’er and you’ve never stumbled across , now might be the time. Caution: There is something here to offend everyone. (Also, like dailyheights, Sam Sloan knows that the Internet is all about scrolling.) A couple we know got their first Prospect Heights Brooklyn
apartment through Sam Sloan’s website, believe it or not. No broker fee. In 2000.

This past fall, Sam Sloan tried to run for US Congress for the Tenth Congressional District of New York, on the Republican ticket. TIP: To hear two MIDIs playing at once, be sure to click through and look at Sam’s seven kids.

WHATIS: Dean Street Playground

According to NYCGovParks.org:
“Bounded by Dean Street and Bergen Street between 6th Avenue and Carlton
Avenue, this playground takes its name from Dean Street. Dean Street, in turn,
is named for Silas
Deane (1737-1789)
, a Revolutionary War statesman.”

FOUNDED (1948):
Parks
acquired the property in 1948. The playground opened that same year: “For
years, although the playground was not officially named, residents referred to
it as Dean Street Playground.”
RENOVATED (1970):
New additions
included comfort station, slides and swings, four seesaws, sandbox, flagpole,
hopscotch area, asphalt ballfield.
NAMED (1987): Officially designated
“Dean Playground” by Commissioner Stern.
RENOVATED AGAIN (2000): Funds ($70,000)
provided by Mayor Giuliani and City Council Member Mary Pinkett. Safety
surfacing replaced.
TODAY (2005): Go
to the meeting
and find out.

WHERE TO PUT UP THE PARENTS: Bed and Breakfast Marisa

Bed_breakfast_home_imageProspect Heights Dilemma: Parents/friends/relatives visiting. Tiny apartment. Few choices for nearby hotel, guest house, hostel, flophouse, or seedy rent-by-the hour place on side street in Park Slope. Solution: Good question. This new dailyheights category, Accommodations, is a start. Entry number one:

Bed and Breakfast Marisa (www.brooklynbedandbreakfast.net) at 288 Park Pl.
718-399-9535; 917-865-7428 | Rates $95-130

A local Old Media outlet (which describes the space as "cozy, but uninspired" and "mediocre" in the  romance department) says breakfast is "not included" (so, that would make it a Bed-and-Breakfast-Not-Included?). But Marisa’s website say "fresh-brewed
coffee or tea, fresh fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, bagels and
spreads is served in your room."

Shaya and Bruce: Unhappy Together?

It took Develop Don’t Destroy (go figure) to point out that the New York Times profile of developer Shaya Boymelgreen highlights several of his current Brooklyn ventures, but somehow leaves out a very important one: "The Times managed to completely ignore the fact that Shaya owns property in the Nets Arena Complex footprint (Newswalk) and has vowed that he’ll never sell…"

Soda Bar Gives Pool Table The Boot

Soda_backroom_heatherHeather investigates: "The long-adored pool table in Soda on Vanderbilt Ave. has bitten the dust. A major selling point since the bar’s opening, the pool table was removed about two weeks ago because, according to one bartender, it was the cause of ‘too many fights.’ She attested that the table was not broken or anything; ‘it was just time’ for it to go." Pictured: The space left behind.
