Munchkin wants to know. Also, roving private security trucks? Night parking for residents only? Etc.

I do not think that night parking should be reserved for residents only. I’m assuming this kind of restriction would cause residents to have to get a parking pass, and to apply for or buy visitor parking passes for their guests. This would be a huge inconvenience and add layers of bureaucracy, not to mention more fees, to owning a car in the ‘hood. And it would deter us from freely inviting guests to drive in to our exotic locale and flop on our floor. I don’t like it.

I live in Fort Greene, and we’ve considered neighborhood parking passes, but it’s very, very hard to get the ball rolling on those things. It takes a ton of steam and support to succeed. Plus, it seems extreme if its just a safety concern at hand.

As far as the security guards, Brooklyn Heights used to do the same thing back when the 84th really didn’t give them much coverage. Now look at the place, the biggest hazard they have is littering outside a trash bin.

Maybe a carpool would also be a way to solve it, hiring a private car or transport van to shuttle people from the late-night subway stops, and double-duty as a sort of watchdog.

How about a Bear Patrol? I’ve heard that they are effective.
