WABC 7 Eyewitness News reports (text, video) that , at about 3 am on New Year’s Day, a fire started in a six-story apartment building at 901 Washington (at Carroll): "The fire was growing quickly as rescue
trucks arrived on the scene. Firefighters were able to knock it out
within the hour. But the damage had been done … Four people are
reported dead, two others were rushed to nearby Kings County hospital."
