How Many Traffic Cops to Tow a Car in PH?

Posted by dailyheights on Thursday 26 April 2007 at 11:34 pm

Our new favorite newbie 44ButlerPl posts on the Prospect Heights Forum | DailyHeights.com Message Boards:

“How many NYPD Traffic Cops does it take to tow a car? Three. And even then, it took over an hour.”

“What a complete and utter waste of city resources. This car was parked in front of a pedestrian crosswalk, and the city always tows these cars away [True - the spot is a major towing-revenue boondoggle - Ed.]. This morning, however, they couldn’t figure out how to disengage the parking brake on this VW wagon…

“Congestion Pricing” and Commute: Will it Work?

Posted by dailyheights on Wednesday 25 April 2007 at 6:32 am

Limestone Kid writes on the Brooklynian.com message boards: “What are people’s thoughts on Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal about congestion pricing?”

“Personally, I’m in favor of it. I walk to work in downtown Brooklyn, and it’s amazing the number of vehicles that are occupied by only the driver. If it gets cars off the road, then I’ve in favor it.”

Does it work? thirtythreesixty writes: “London pre- and post- congestion charging is a different city to walk around in and commute in…the system works incredibly well… “

Are people in favor of it? Overwhelmingly… at least on the Brooklynian boards. As of this writing, there is only one (relatively) negative comment: “As usual, what initially sounds like a good idea - ends up sucking for people who need their cars every day to get to work because of lack of public transport options,” Livetotravel says. “Where’s Bloomberg’s proposal for offering incentives to car pool?”

Deli Attack on Washington: Bodega Hostility Reaches a New Level

Posted by dailyheights on Friday 13 April 2007 at 9:24 am

It’s been a week since Mohammed, one of the guys at Deli Cup (773 Washington, the deli that does sell beer), was assaulted by several people who were upset (apparently) about the outcome of a lottery ticket: “He was beaten so bad that his teeth were falling out of his mouth as he was covered in blood and drifting in and out of consciousness after the attack,” says resident “sensationalist” LeeHo, who decries the lack of media attention, and charges that cops from the 77th Precinct “would rather look the other way” on this assault.

That charge is not at all true, as further discussion on the Prospect Heights Message Board reveals (UPDATE: according to ParadeRest, the perp has now turned himself in at the precinct and was charged with attempted murder). But let’s face it - an assault in the Heights is not newsworthy, is it… unless that assault happens to somebody you and everybody else in the neighborhood knows:

“Mo has always been one of my favorite people,” newbie UrJustADayLate wrote yesterday in this ongoing discussion. “He knows me and my roommates’ names, and makes sure to ask us how we are all doing. At Christmas time, he gives us all presents and wishes us the best of holidays.”

“I have been unfortunate enough to experience hostility towards Mo on many occasions over nothing in particular. People are rude to Mo just to be rude… Young kids kicking Mo’s cat when it was just a tiny kitten in front of their blind mothers, men screaming at Mo for not getting the Tylenol right (the patron was the one who had been wrong), and women cursing him for not producing their change quick enough are all incidents I’ve witnessed in that deli.” “I am sick and tired of this neighborhood falling victim to absolute ignorance… Those people need to be caught and put away for a VERY long time.”

Will it happen? Looks like they nabbed two (potential) perps. Read more on the Prospect Heights Message Board
