“…The DOT found that our concerns were justified: speeding is rampant on Vanderbilt and the road is wider than necessary to accomodate traffic. They agreed to create a median that begins between Sterling and Park Pl. and ends between Bergen and Dean Streets. It will be one lane wide and include cuts for left turns….”

According to the e-mail, the median should be painted by the end of spring, and a raised and planted median might be built if funds can be raised.

Robbery Last Night at Love Liquors on Washington/Lincoln?

Posted by dailyheights on Wednesday 1 March 2006 at 11:42 am

StickerHookUpsIloveLiquor.gifsterling2000 writes on the Prospect Heights Message Boards: Does anyone know what went down at Love Liquors on Washington last night around 7:15pm? As I was walking home, I saw the owner holding a towel to his head (as if he’d been hit) while another guy was quickly locking the door and shuttering the windows. Minutes later, two cop cars and an ambulance showed up.”

“That’s such a highly trafficked part of Washington (near Eastern Parkway) that time of night, I’m shocked a robbery/assualt would happen there at that time.”

jayce adds: “I was walking to my swim class last night around 7:45, and was amazed to see all the police, ambulances and spectators gathered at the Liquor store … Looked like the front door was smashed up…”

Alright, Whose Hydroponic Pot Farm Leaked?

The Jewish Hospital

Originally uploaded by apollonia666.

Mystery of the tight-lipped firefighters over at The Jewish Hospital: solved. From the Newsday article: “A call about a water leak at a Prospect Heights building Sunday turned into a major narcotics investigation …”

“Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Sunday, however, a fourth-floor resident called 911 about a water leak.” (…a water leak? Who calls 911 for a water leak??)

“The smell of the marijuana was unmistakable in the hallway of 699 Classon Ave., police sources said, yet it did not appear anyone had called to complain about the odor.”

classony writes in the Prospect Heights Message Boards: “The smell of marijuana is frequently unmistakable in our hallway and I don’t even live on the pot farm floor. Can you imagine if someone called 911 every time there caught a weed whiff?

“Who knew there were over 200 plants though? Our aloe is struggling. Too bad the 5th floor botanists won’t be around to give tips.”

sweet tea adds: “i do wish one of the firefolks i talked to last night had said something to the effect that my apartment was not, say, about to burst into flames.”

“but, you know, it’s good that we clarified our escape-with-cats plan, right? and a little anxiety never hurt anybody. except for cardiac patients.”
