WHATIS: Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council (PHNDC)

Posted by dailyheights on Wednesday 19 January 2005 at 11:22 pm

The Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council, Inc. (PHNDC),
formed in the spring of 2004, is an umbrella group representing
Prospect Heights block associations and civic organizations. Some of
the group’s stated goals are to "guide development" and "preserve the diversity that is the hallmark of this vibrant community." PHNDC is probably best known for commissioning an independent neighborhood development study predicated at least in part by concerns over the potential negative impact of the Forest City Ratner Atlantic Yards Project on the neighborhood. Recently, the PHNDC has been meeting with the Borough President’s office in an effort to keep the residents of Prospect Heights involved in the development of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS). The founder and chair of PHNDC is Gib Veconi.

OK. There’s the first draft.

In 1930, Soda Bar was a German-owned ice cream parlor

Oscar_perez_citysearchcomThe Citysearch review says Soda Bar in the 30s was "a German-owned ice cream parlor serving cherry-lime rickeys … vintage remnants (remain) such as wooden tables with lunch-tray grooves, a Royal Crown Cola calendar and cherry-red fountain-style bar stools salute old times." Marilyn_wash_ave Ben writes us: "I’d like to see more info about Washington Ave. and what’s going on there. It’s beginning to develop and get the good kind of shops we need." Any new developments?

"Also, I notice there is lots of new construction in that area … I know one site near prospect place is slated to have 12 condos, I don’t believe anything more than excavation has been done yet. Any details?"
